episode 2

17 Oct

Welcome to episode 2 of creative conversations. This week I visit the studio of PVA MediaLab in Bridport, West Dorset, where I meet Julie Penfold, the co-founder and current director of PVA MediaLab. We are joined by another director of PVA MediaLab, David Rogers. We discuss the early days of four artists discussing what become PVA MediaLab, what is PVA MediaLab? I find out more about a Lab and Lab Culture. We touch on the difficulties of operating from a rural base, within a local community, but operating on a national and in fact international region.

The top tips for artists strategies on surviving, is to operate as a business. You are a business, one that does everything yourself. It is important to know the right people – talk to the people that matter. Also networking and marketing are very important ingredients to artistic survival.

I hope you will find this new show on art, culture and the economics of being an artist in Dorset interesting and engaging. I welcome your input to future episodes.
